Finding feeding bass

Finding bass right now requires finding the right structure and a willingness to move around.

This is a great time of year to find bass in a feeding mode. Whether they are moving onto or retreating from the beds, the chances of finding bass ready to eat are pretty high. But you’ve got to keep moving. Too often anglers get locked into one area, or one specific spot, and don’t go explore water. The funny thing is, this is the time of year to be out exploring and hunting those bass that are ready to feed. Top anglers realize the spawning season bass move and can often be found in different water depths depending on the weather.
When bass move from deep to shallow or shallow to deep, they love to have a trail to follow — almost like a road map. They also use landmarks, like a slow sloping ledge out at the point, as references to get from one spot to another. These areas can be a key in locating fish. As they travel, they feed along the way. Any sort of cover — rocks, vegetation, brush — that provides a place to ambush bait is a prime area to work thoroughly.
