Paddling is an ideal way to explore Southwest Florida's waterways in the fall.
By Waterman Jamie Hooks
The paddling season is here. That’s what fall means to me and many others who work in the kayak trade. My regular clients from up north are starting to call and book trips, so it’s time for me to get busy.
I just love this time of year on the water. On the fishing side, these can be your best days on the water all year — from the rivers to the bays, the fishing is great. With the water temperatures dropping, the midday fishing will only get better in the bay. The water isn’t just cooler, it’s also clearer, so sight fishing along the mangroves gets really good this time of year. It’s absolutely one of my favorite ways to fish.
