Lois M. Nixon, 95, of Venice, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at her home at Jacaranda Trace.

She was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Farmer City, Ill., to Guy and Anna Moreland. She married Paul L. Nixon April 27, 1936. They were married for 65 years before he passed away Dec. 4, 2001. They farmed for many years in central Illinois until they retired to Haines City, Fla. They relocated to Venice in 2000. Lois moved to Jacaranda Trace in August 2007.

Lois is survived by her children, Barry (Peggy) Nixon of Venice and Dixie (Bob) Mulligan of Encinitas, Calif.; four grandchildren, Steve Nixon of Gridley, Ill., Eric (Ellen) Nixon of Wells, Maine, Stan (Melanie) Howarter, of Titusville, Fla., and Laurie (Michelle) Hobird of Valley Village, Calif.; and six great-grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her.

Lois loved to travel. She and Paul visited almost every state and Canada, and they also enjoyed cruising. After Paul’s death, she continued cruising with her daughter Dixie.

She loved living at Jacaranda Trace and enjoyed volunteering as a greeter at the concierge desk. She made many good friends there. Lois always had a warm smile for everyone she met. She took pleasure in being around people and will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her. Lois’ wishes were that her ashes and those of her husband be interred together at Venice Memorial Gardens.

Services: A private service will be held at a later date. National Cremation and Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
