Clara “Kathy” Smiley, 77, of Venice, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, surrounded by her family following a short illness.

Kathy was preceded in death by her love and soulmate, Howard (Bud) Smiley, in September 2010. Kathy is survived by her daughters, Jane Sharrock (George) of Tampa, Pamela Flach (Gary) of Venice, Sherry Salinero (Steve) of San Antonio, Texas, and Kim Davidson (Larry) of Elm Grove, La.; and several brothers and sisters in Texas. Kathy also leaves 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Kathy was a homemaker and caregiver for Bud, who spent his final seven years in local nursing homes. Following Bud’s death Kathy spent countless hours assisting with activities at Sunset Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Venice. Kathy enjoyed traveling to Texas and Louisiana to spend time with family. She loved baseball and was an avid Cubs fan.

Services: A celebration of life will be held at First Christian Church, 1100 Center Road, Venice, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24.
