Gladys Bosek Susek, 84, of Venice, formerly of St. Louis, Mo., died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012.

She was born Dec. 22, 1927, in St. Louis to Albert and Anna Bosek. Gladys was president of the Melville Garden Club in St. Louis. She and John moved to Nokomis in 1988. She was the president of the Venice Area Garden Club and the matriarch of VAGC annual Home Tour, serving on the board for 24 years. She served on the board of Venice Area Beautification Inc., Venetian Waterway Park and the Venice Symphony; was a member of Epiphany Cathedral’s Council of Catholic Women; and served as a greeter for more than 20 years at the cathedral’s 11 a.m. Mass.

She is survived by her husband, John F. of Venice; their son John A. predeceased Gladys in 1977. Gladys has one sister, Eileen Bosek Lord of Willis, Texas. She has five nieces and their families, Kelly Gibbs, Terri Pratt, Sister Janise Berbich, School Sisters of Notre Dame, Judy Broeckling and Jayne Kerns; and many dear friends.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p. m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Epiphany Cathedral. Ewing Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
