A line-item veto by Gov. Rick Scott has threatened the effectiveness of a decades-old program that has helped thousands of area women get the skills and self-confidence necessary to find jobs.
Scott’s veto of $1.8 million in funding will affect the ability of the Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County to continue classes through the Displaced Homemakers Program. The veto came out of the blue, center Executive Director Janice Zarro said last week.
