Discussion of consolidating local police and fire dispatch services with the county wasn’t supposed to take place for another three years under a Venice City Council edict last year.

All that changed last month when the Sarasota County Commission put an offer on the table that may be just too good to refuse — consolidating law enforcement, fire and EMS dispatch services at no cost to the city.
