PUNTA GORDA — When Charlotte High School’s Mallory Burton scored 12 points in the third quarter Friday against Island Coast and the Gators scored six in the same period, the game was essentially over.
Charlotte’s dominant third quarter gave the Tarpons a 33-27 lead — not exactly commanding. But in the sluggish post-Thanksgiving matchup, it didn’t need to be. Charlotte went on to win 39-37.
