PUNTA GORDA — Mindy Vitale is a good example of the quality of athletes in the Charlotte High School girls weightlifting program.

The Tarpon junior qualified for the state meet last season in the 199-pound division as a sophomore. Although she did not have the highest placement among area athletes in the meet, she finished 12th with a 300-pound total. And she is looking for even better things this season.
