James R. “Jim” Matthew, 77, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013.
He was the son of Elmer and Ella Matthew, born March 25, 1936, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada.
Jim served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an accountant and an auditor for the IRS before opening Matthew Tax Inc. Jim came to Port Charlotte in 1983, and was active with the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce; he was a member of the first Leadership Charlotte class. He had been a resident of the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home since 2009.
Jim will be greatly missed by his daughters, Michelle (Chris) Taylor and Meridith (Bryan) Williams; grandchildren, Amber, Collin and Jacob Taylor; and brother, Don Matthew. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John and Ken Matthew.
The service in celebration of Jim’s life will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the Wyvern Hotel. Memorial donations may be made to the Douglas T.
