Many members of the Multicultural American Nurses Organization in Punta Gorda have seen first hand the dire needs of the children in Haiti. They held a dinner-dance Jan. 18 at the First United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda to raise funds for a new orphanage being built in Haiti.
Wilson Gedeon, a cardiac nurse at Peace River Regional Medical Center, decided to build the orphanage after witnessing the devastation in Haiti immediately following the 2010 earthquake. St. Marie’s Orphanage, in the mountains near Petionville, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, is nearly complete.
