Hurricanes cause destruction with wind and water — something Punta Gorda residents know very well. So when Hurricane Sandy made landfall in the North East, residents here felt their pain and sorrow.

In an effort to help a small fishing town just like Punta Gorda recover from the storm damage, employees with the city of Punta Gorda held a benefit car wash for the residents of Highlands, N.J. The two-day car wash occurred Nov. 17-18 at the Public Works’ yard, and the event raised more than $2,000 to help the city with its recovery needs.
