Report:
Truck driver crashes on I-75
PUNTA GORDA — A driver was cited for failure to use due control after he crashed his vehicle through a guardrail on Interstate 75 Thursday morning, creating a traffic backup that resulted in additional crashes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Scott Gale, 37, of North Port, was driving in the outside northbound lane on I-75 when his 2005 International MWV truck began to fishtail around mile marker 161 in Punta Gorda, according to the report. Gale allegedly lost control and veered through the inside lane and west shoulder, colliding with a guardrail and then continued sliding inside the median. The report says the truck then went through a wired guardrail and hit an “End Road Work” sign. After sliding another 42 feet, the vehicle then collided with a concrete barrier, according to the report.
