Frederick Richard “Dick” Leonard, 69, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in 1943, in Highland Park, Mich., to Mildred and Fred J. Leonard.

Dick met his adored wife, Vicki, in 1983, when they started building their life and business together. They married in 1990 and shared work, travel adventure and extended family gatherings. He was the co-owner, with his brother, Jeff, and Broker of Investors Realty International in Punta Gorda, from 1983 to 2001. Dick was committed to being a part of the growth and expansion of this beautiful waterfront area. He and Vicki loved the water; fishing and boating have always been a part of their world. Dick was also an accomplished photographer. Some of his favorite subjects were the area surrounding his Blue Ridge Mountain vacation home, his world travels and all generations of his fun loving family. Dick had a passion for technology; he served as the gadget guru for a wide circle of people. His computer room was his sanctuary and a place of fascination for his family. He was generous in sharing his knowledge and expertise and patiently tutored the curious. Dick was a supportive, caring man who was playful and a cherished role model to his family.

Dick will be dearly missed by his wife, Vicki; son, Steven (Patricia) Leonard; siblings, Jeffrey (Denise) Leonard, Susan (David) Napolitano, and Gayle (Stan) Hurd; grandchildren, Brandon, Stephen, and Abby Leonard; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Leonard; and his father, Fred J. Leonard.

Service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution be made in Dick’s name to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952 or The Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, 3519 Drance Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33980. Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral Home.
