Grace E. Amodeo, 83, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte.

She was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Albany, N.Y., and moved to Port Charlotte in 1984 from there.

Grace rose through the ranks of St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, where she started as a secretary and eventually became the hospital’s acting public relations director. Grace was a former President of the Women’s Press Association in Albany. She loved Charlotte County, Fla., and was very active in community affairs. For many years she was a volunteer at front desk of Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital, which is now Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte; and served as a Lector at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. She was a member of the Charlotte County Construction Board of Adjustments & Appeals, the Charlotte Harbor Community Redevelopment Committee, the Charlotte County Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee, the Manchester Waterway Advisory Committee and the Community Action Agency Advisory Committee. Grace also regularly attended the Charlotte County Commission’s meetings and workshops, the Marine Advisory Board, the Charlotte County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Enterprise Charlotte Board meetings.

She is survived by her loving family, including her husband of 62 years, Paul A. Amodeo Sr. of Port Charlotte; two sons, Paul A. Amodeo Jr. of Colonie, N.Y., and Lee R. Amodeo of Southbridge, Mass.; two sisters, Verna Bolton and Rose Gabel, both of Albany; brother, William Edick of Selkirk, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at the funeral home. The Rev. Vincent Scotto will officiate. Committal services and entombment will be held later at the Edgewood Chapel of Memory Gardens Cemetery & Memorial Park in Albany.
