Roger G. Bass Sr.
Roger G. Bass Sr., 70, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2012.
He was born Nov. 17, 1941, in Brewton, Ala.
Roger moved from Milton, Fla., to Arcadia, Fla., where he resided from 1962 until 2010, when he moved to Punta Gorda. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Arcadia, and two of the Florida Bluegrass Associations. Roger was a carpenter and roofer by trade, and owned and operated B and S Roofing for over 25 years. He enjoyed square-dancing, playing guitar and singing country and bluegrass music, and was a member of several bands, including Tater Hill Band and Roger Bass and the Hillbillies.
Roger is survived by his wife, Manuela Moeller Bass of Punta Gorda; son, Roger “Pete” (companion, Sharon Carson) Bass Jr. of Arcadia; daughter, Rhonda “Rhonnie” (Homer “Sparky”) Murphy of Arcadia; stepdaughters, Katie (Larry) Taylor of Zolfo Springs, Fla., and Ramona (companion, Bobby Martin) Moeller of North Port, Fla., stepson, Eddie Bernard of Pensacola, Fla.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Emily “Penny” Wheeler of Greensboro, Fla., and Christine “Cricket” (Bill) Warren of Canton, Ga.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his first two wives, Bettie Gomillion Bass and Odell Norton Bass; and his parents, William H. “Bob” and Mary Irene Wyatt Bass.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home of Arcadia. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Arcadia. Burial will be in Milton.
