Sermon of the Week: The great commission
Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, to open heaven’s gates. The Old Testament is filled with prophecies concerning the coming of the Messiah, and we know that His Kingdom continues on through us after His Resurrection and He ascended to heaven. The prophet Isaiah talks about why Jesus came, in 61:1-3.
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted; He sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison of the eyes of those that are bound, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” He talked about granting the oil of Joy, and garments of praise. Isaiah talks about rebuilding and rising up.
