PUNTA GORDA — Just two months before Roy Poore was charged with the attempted second-degree murder of Aldolphus Martin, he was allegedly involved in the hit-and-run death of Phyllis Irene Gipe, who was struck by Poore’s vehicle after Poore and Gy Anthony “Tony” Gipe, Phyllis’ son, had a physical confrontation.

The July 29, 2011 incident stemmed from a disagreement between Tony and Poore, after both of their sons had a disagreement of their own, Tony said Tuesday. The disagreement escalated when Poore allegedly tried to run over Tony at the intersection of Quince Street and South Jones Loop Road in Punta Gorda, near where both men lived. But instead would collide minutes later with a golf cart in which Phyllis was a passenger.
