Catherine Isabel Gentile

Catherine Isabel Gentile, 91, of North Port, Fla., passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at her home, after a long period of declining health.

She was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of John Dunn and Georgina Squires Dunn.

Catherine married Peter Gentile in May 1946 in Brooklyn, after he returned from service in the U.S. Navy in World War II. She was a full-time mother to her four children, including one with Down syndrome, as Capt. Gentile spent long periods at sea throughout his career with the Military Sealift Command. Catherine was renowned by her family and friends as an expert seamstress, decorator and cook.

She is survived by her husband, Peter of North Port; son, Peter Michael Gentile of Sarasota, Fla.; daughters, Jacquelyn Margaret Gentile and Georgina Ida Gentile, both of North Port; daughter-in-law, Carrie Blankinship Gentile of Sarasota; granddaughter, Alyssa Marie Pabst of North Port; and great-granddaughter, Maya Victoria Matthews of North Port. She was preceded in death by her daughter Victoria Marie, who passed away in 2006.

There will be a graveside service at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, at a time to be announced.

Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte, Fla.
