Florence DePalma Mariano

Florence DePalma Mariano, 92, of North Port, Fla., passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012.

She was born March 10, 1920, in Geneva, N.Y., the ninth of 10 children born to Antonio and Michela DePalma.

In the summer of 1941, Florence met the love of her life, Ed Mariano. They married Nov. 25, 1944, in Westport, Conn. They were blessed with four daughters, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Florence’s joy in life was in helping others. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she volunteered countless hours at her church, Meals on Wheels, the North Port Library and Respite.

Florence is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen (Frank) Mariano of The Villages, Fla., Cathy (Mike) Rapp of New Port Richey, Fla., Susan (Dan) Gallagher of North Port, and Tess Mitchell of Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, Joe, Erin, Leah, Shaun, Nicholas and Stephen; and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, Luke and Lily.

Services for Florence will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at San Pedro Catholic Church, with a reception following. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. To send online condolences, visit www.farleyfuneralhome.com.
