When North Port High School athletic director Ryan LaVallee needed to find a replacement for boys basketball coach Curt Allen, he didn’t have to look too far to find the right candidate.

Travis Slanger was hired on Friday as the third varsity basketball coach in the school’s history. Slanger had already been an assistant under Allen for four years; he has been a teacher at North Port for the past six.
