TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Two workers from Tampa’s parks department are recovering after being stung by bees while clearing a pile of wood and old tires from Picnic Island Park.

David Zeledon told the Tampa Tribune on Wednesday that he and coworker Rodney Pugh disturbed a beehive while clearing the items.

He says it “was a cloud of bees all over the place.”

The Tribune says Zeledon fell down twice as he ran across the road to get away from the bees. He took shelter behind a park ranger’s building before grabbing a hose and spraying water on himself and his coworker.

The men were taken to the hospital and given antibiotic for numerous stings.

Director of the parks department Greg Bayor called a company to exterminate the bees.
