During the recent 36-Hour Giving Challenge, sponsored by The Giving Partners, 287 area nonprofits in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties earned $2,786,468.

At 7 a.m. on Tuesday through
7 p.m. on Wednesday, residents could donate online or on smartphones. According to the event website, the total amount raised came from 17,626 separate gifts. This is the second year for the timed challenge. Last year’s event resulted in $2.4 million raised through 10,700 gifts to 109 nonprofits.
