Members of the Coalition of Immokolee Workers and supporters cross the Baron Collier Bridge to Charlotte Harbor on Tuesday. They were on their way to demonstrate outside a Publix store over the chain's refusal to join a Fair Food pact. The protestors are expected to stay in North Port tonight.

Some 75 farm workers from Immokalee completed the first 15 miles of their 200-mile “Fair Food” march to Lakeland on Monday evening, singing and chanting for “justice,” and chowing down at the Bread of Life Mission in Punta Gorda.

Trooping along U.S. 41 from North Fort Myers with banners and signs and a police escort, they waved and shouted to passing motorists, urging them to honk their horns in support of more pay and better treatment for farm workers, particularly those who pick tomatoes.
