Cheney Way
nears completion
PUNTA GORDA — Once a makeshift community for Hurricane Charley victims composed of Federal Emergency Management Agency trailers and a spider web of utility lines, a parcel of land near the Punta Gorda Airport owned by Riviera Beach-based food-distribution giant Cheney Brothers is one step closer to becoming the company’s new West Coast distribution center.
Construction of Cheney Way — a roughly half-mile road that links Piper Road to the 35‑acre Cheney site where a 250,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will be built — is nearing completion, with paving set to occur early next week, said the company’s new projects manager Warren Newell.
