Marker notes man’s love for Springs

Family members of Jeff Merkher get their first look at a memorial marker honoring him at Warm Mineral Springs Day Spa, during a short ceremony Tuesday morning. Merkher, before he passed in 2009, volunteered his time to give twice-weekly lectures in both English and Russian on the history of the Springs.

NORTH PORT — Family and friends of the late Jeff Merkher gathered at the Warm Mineral Springs Day Spa Tuesday morning to remember him with a memorial marker in the place he loved so well.
“His heart was with this lake,” said his widow, Augustina.
