AAUW sponsors STEM event

"This is the group's 138th anniversary and we are celebrating by encouraging and inspiring girls to continue their education in the field of math science and engineering because that is where the high paying jobs are," said Dick. Lake Wales is the only branch of the AAUW in Polk County.

The “Girls Can Be Anything!” event held at Hillcrest Elementary on Saturday was sponsored by the Lake Wales Branch of American Association of University Women and hosted by Hillcrest. More than 60 fourth- and fifth-grade girls took part in STEM activities that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
