Kirkland Gym hosts Pickleball

Kirkland Gym in Lake Wales plays host to “Pickleball,” a fun game that uses a perforated plastic ball, not unlike a whiffle ball. The players use wood or composite paddles and play in an area about half the size of a tennis court. Like tennis, pickleball can be played in games for singles or doubles. Scoring is similar in either game, as the serving side earns a point whenever the other side fails to return the shot. Open to all at Kirkland Gymnasium, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

After a round of Pickleball, it is customary for players to touch paddle handles together. Concetta (left) and Annette (right) meet at the net after a round of Pickleball at the Kirkland Gym on Friday.
