There were some wins and some losses, but athletes at Lake Wales High School have sure been busy.
The Lake Wales Girls’ Tennis team lost to Sebring, 0-7 at home last Monday. On Tuesday, the team defeated Ridge Community High School, 6-0. The singles matches were won by Jessica Highnight, Monika Carillo, Katt Dudamel, and Julia Marbutt. The doubles matches were won by the teams of Hignight-Carillo and Dudamel-Revelo. On Thursday, the girls defeated Lake Gibson High School 5-2. The singles matches were won by Hignight, Carillo, Dudamel and Revelo. Their next match will be Thursday at Bartow.
The Lake Wales Boys’ Tennis Team improved their record to 7 and 4 by defeating Tenoroc Thursday afternoon, 5 to 1. The scores are as follows:
#1 Spencer Parlier defeated Devon Smith 6-3, 6-3.
#2 Jonathan Smith defeated Wyatt Waterfield 3-6, 7-5 (10-6).
#3 Thommy Pertorius defeated Matthew Moore 6-0, 6-1.
#4 Adrian Rodriguez defeated Patrick Moore 7-5, 6-3.
#5 Chase Jones defeated Charles Wasden 6-2, 6-2.
The #1 doubles match between Spencer Parlier and Jonathan Smith was called due to darkness.
The #2 doubles Adrian Rodriguez and Chase Jones lost to the Moore Twins … Matthew and Patrick.
The boys will return to action next Thursday when they host Lake Region at 3:30 p.m.
On March 7, the Weightlifting Team placed 7th at the Avon Park Invitational. Robert Wembley placed 2nd in his class with a total lift of 550, Bendley Jean took 6th place in his class with a total lift of 495, and Luke Heirs came in 6th place in his class with a lift of 505.
Then there was the Girls Softball Team, who beat Lake Gibson 3-0 on Feb. 26. Kelsey Oller got the win (1 hit 6 inn 10 K’s) and Taite Powell got the save. They also beat Winter Haven 12-0 on March 1. Kelsey Oller got the win with a no hitter.
