On Feb. 10, 2013 Lake Wales Police officers responded to the report of an injured person at 340 E. Seminole Ave., in Lake Wales.

Responding officers discovered the victim, Derek Hartman a 38-year-old Lake Wales resident, had suffered a severe blow to the head with an unknown object. During the investigation it was learned that the suspect in this case, Rhyan Morrison, a 20-year-old Lake Wales resident, had allegedly become involved in a verbal argument with Hartman. During the course of the argument, police say Morrison struck Hartman in the head, causing severe and permanent injury. Hartman was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and is currently in stable condition.
