MIAMI (AP) — Homeless shelters across South Florida are preparing extra beds as temperatures dip into the 40s with gusty winds of 10 miles per hour.

The Miami Rescue Mission is anticipating about 100 more homeless individuals than normal.

The Broward Outreach Centers in Hollywood and Pompano Beach are also expecting extra residents and implemented their “Compassionate Nights” program that gives individuals a meal, change of clothes and a bed for the night.

The shelters offered extra beds on Saturday night and said they will continue until the cold weather has passed.

Shelters are asking for donations of blankets, jackets and socks.
