Lady Dragon varsity basketball coach Jackie Coyne rallied the troops during a time out Thursday night.
A spectacularly-played second half propelled the Lake Placid Lady Dragon basketball team to a 51-37 victory over Tampa’s Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars on Thursday night, Feb. 7, in a game which filled the Bill Ross Memorial Gymnasium with enthusiastic fans from both schools. The win sent Lake Placid into the second round of regional play the following Tuesday, Feb. 12, against Tampa Catholic.
The Jaguars and Green Dragons have a bit of history, having met in regional playoff games in previous years with Lake Placid always coming out on the short end of the score. This year we hoped for something better and got it! Assistant boys’ varsity coach, Cornelius Munnings, observed, “They’ve always beaten us, but they haven’t played against this bunch yet!”
