Taking an important Class 2A; District 10 victory Thursday night, the Lake Placid Green Dragon boys’ varsity soccer team defeated the Avon Park Red Devils, 3-0, in the second half of a boys’/girls’ doubleheader at Joe Franza Stadium.

The game had certain distinctive characteristics brought about by being played during what is now known as Winter Break. The Green Dragons were missing several members of their varsity team, so Coach James Ashley brought up some help from the junior varsity. Avon Park had an even worse problem: on a winless squad so far this season only ten athletes showed up to play the game Thursday night. In a huge display of sportsmanship, Coach Ashley also fielded only 10 players at a time throughout the game, although Lake Placid had plenty of reserves on the bench.
