LPHS girls' varsity basketball coach Jackie Coyne celebrates with her team after the girls won the Class 4A District 10 championship Friday night in Arcadia.
A huge third-quarter rally propelled the Lake Placid Lady Dragons to a 55-47 win over the DeSoto Bulldogs and the championship of Class 4A; District 10 in basketball Thursday night, Jan. 31. The game was played in DeSoto High School’s amply-sized gymnasium in Arcadia.
It was clear at the outset that the home team Bulldogs “came to play” in this game. They gave no quarter at all in the first two periods. With Bria Wilson and Alex Coyne scoring for Lake Placid in the initial period, things looked promising for the Lady Green. Nevertheless, DeSoto had an answer for practically everything the Dragons did, matching them point-for-point and taking an 18-15 lead after the first eight minutes of play. Coyne had three coast-to-coast lay-ups as well as a long-distance three-pointer to keep Lake Placid in the game.
