An automatic vehicle wash machine at the Wally Wash in Lake Placid was heavily damaged Saturday afternoon when a green 2001 Ford pick-up truck collided with the machine, knocking it off its base and causing it to fall. Damage was estimated at $10,000 if no major components are damaged and $140,000 if the machine must be replaced.
Car wash owner Mike Wood said the incident was captured on several video surveillance cameras he installed after incidents of vandalism. “I want people to know that we are watching and we will prosecute to the full extent of the law,” Wood said. That footage provided Lake Placid police with the identification of the truck and its owner, Bernard Francis Hogan of Lake Placid.
