MIAMI (AP) — A Miami police officer who fatally shot an unarmed man has been fired after a review board found he used “unjustified” deadly force.
The Miami Herald reports that Reynaldo Goyos was fired Wednesday, nearly two months after the Miami Police Department’s Firearms Review Board issued its finding.
The shooting happened in February 2011 as Goyos and a multi-agency task force targeted gang members. According to reports, Goyos approached the suspects’ vehicle and opened fire after seeing a “black object” on Travis McNeil.
McNeil’s mother Sheila McNeil said the officer’s firing “doesn’t help my son a whole lot.”
