Kevin Paul Mathis, 48, of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013.

Born in Bartow, Fla., he was a local resident since 1990.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Mathis was a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota. He coached his son’s basketball teams and enjoyed playing basketball and fishing.

He is survived by his son, Shane Edward Mathis; wife, Christine Mathis; siblings, Eddie B., Willie G., Ivy L., Kenneth L., Warene D., Greg and wife, Cheryl. Kevin is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and friends.

Kevin was pre-deceased by his parents, Grover and Essie Mae, his sister, Carolyn L Wilkin and brothers Grover L. and Johnny L.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Sarasota, Fla., on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at 10:30 a.m..
