Otis Anderson Vaughn

Otis Anderson Vaughn, 69, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at his residence after a brief illness.

Otis was a native of Bartow, Fla., and a graduate of Summerlin Institute. He was preceded in death by his parents Dock and Ruby Weeks Vaughn and brother David. He was a Vietnam combat veteran. Otis worked for Ashland Paving and Construction (Apac) for 30 years where he served as president of the Western North Carolina Division 1988-2006. He was President of the AGC and was a member of CAPA.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginger) McCubbin Vaughn; daughter, Heather K. Vaughn and her husband, Cris Harshman of Asheville and was the proud grandfather of Isabella Harshman. Otis is also survived by five sisters, Fay Meacham of Bartow, Fla., Shirlene Hughey of Millbrook, Ala., Beverly Hollowell of Plant City, Fla., Sue Long and Lou Jean McDonald both of Winter Haven, Fla.

A funeral service for Otis is 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at All Souls Episcopal Church Asheville N.C.

Interment will follow at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain, N.C.

The family request that memorials may be made to the Otis Memorial Scholarship fund c/o Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College Foundation 340 Victoria Road Asheville, N.C.28801 or via www.abtech.edu/foundation.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
