Helen Casey
Longtime Libertyville, Ill., resident Helen Morse Casey, 100, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012, in Bartow, after a full life.
Helen was a strong woman, known for her sharp mind, great sense of humor, and the deep love she felt for those close to her.
She was born Aug. 14, 1911, in St. Joseph, Mich., and enjoyed sharing fond memories of her childhood there. Helen met her husband, Adkins Burnel Casey, while working at the Northern Trust Company in Chicago. They married and moved to Libertyville in 1944. Mr. Casey was appointed treasurer for the township school district. Following his early death in 1978, Helen continued his work as the treasurer for various schools in the Libertyville and Mundelein area. Helen was a devoted and active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville, where she sang in the choir for 35 years.
Full of vigor, she was known to drive her antique tractor on a steep slope well into her 90s. Helen enjoyed listening to opera, playing cello, having lunch with friends, making grape jelly from homegrown grapes, reading, and hosting her grandchildren for summer vacations. She was extremely proud of her daughter, Annette Barnes, M.D., her only child.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adkins Burnel Casey; her sister, Mary Rector; and brothers, Philip and Stanley Morse.
Surviving are her daughter, Annette Barnes, M.D. (Ray Barnes M.D.) of Fort Meade; seven grandchildren, Michele Annette Barnes, Casey David Barnes (Candace), Diane Barnes Frisbee (Dan), Heather Barnes Truelove, Ph.D. (Jimmy), Eric Raymond Barnes (Samantha), Brian Burnell Barnes (Samantha) and Michael Richmond Barnes; and three grandsons, Jackson Frisbee, Christian Barnes and Lucas Truelove.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 21, at the Presbyterian Church, 219 West Maple, Libertyville, Ill. Arrangements were by the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home LTD., Libertyville. For information,
