MIAMI (AP) — Authorities say two Miami police officers face federal charges related to identity theft and tax-refund fraud.

Police say 27-year-old Malinsky Bazile and 26-year-old Vital Frederick were set to make their initial court appearances Thursday. It wasn’t immediately clear if they had attorneys.

The Miami Herald reports that Bazile and Frederick are among 11 Miami police officers relieved of duty in recent months who face potential criminal charges or the loss of their jobs in connection with the corruption investigation of the department. The investigation was a joint effort between the department and the FBI.

Authorities say Bazile and Frederick stole people’s identities from Miami police databases and used the information to file fraudulent tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service.
