WASHINGTON (AP) — A senior congressman says U.S. officials have captured Osama bin Laden’s spokesman in Jordan.

Republican Peter King of New York is former chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. King says Sulaiman Abu Ghaith was captured within the last week. He says the capture was confirmed to him by U.S. law enforcement officials.

King says Ghaith was bin Laden’s son-in-law and was part of the Sept. 11, 2001, plot against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

On Thursday, King called Ghaith’s capture, quote, a “very significant victory” in U.S. efforts against al-Qaida.
