MIAMI (AP) — The former mayor of North Miami Beach is under arrest on allegations of campaign finance and illegal compensation related to advertising on bus benches throughout the South Florida city.

Miami-Dade County State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said Thursday that the charges all stem from Myron Rosner’s failed 2011 re-election campaign.

Rosner’s attorney did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Prosecutors say Rosner committed grand theft by using money from his campaign account for personal ads on the bus benches. Another charge involves allegedly free bus bench ads given to Rosner so the company would not lose the city account. Prosecutors say it was understood that Rosner would not repay the cost of those ads.

Other counts involve allegations of worthless campaign checks and related finance violations.
