The Polk County Board of County Commissioners agreed at its Aug. 21 meeting to issue refunds to property owners who were overbilled for solid waste removal for a period covering fiscal year 2005-06 to fiscal year 2011-12, an amount estimated to be at least as much as $1.4 million. In order for anyone to receive a refund, a claim will have to be filed which will then be researched to determine validity.

The issue and proposed resolution was introduced during County Manager Jim Freeman’s presentation to the BOCC. Although Freeman’s presentation was straightforward, commissioners had questions.
