Two years ago, Tom Mims, a Lakeland businessman with real estate holdings, complained to Polk County Commissioners about being charged for garbage pickup on undeveloped property. Believing his complaints were falling on deaf ears, he turned to the State Attorney’s Office for relief.

In January it contacted Richard Weiss, Clerk of the Courts and requested an audit. Weiss said one would be done and completed in February. However, that deadline came and went and it would not be until July 30 when an audit was finally submitted to the SAO.
