PORT CHARLOTTE — When he was selected with the top pick in the 2008 MLB amateur draft by Tampa Bay, Tim Beckham instantly had expectations tied to his name.

After all, the potential of being a “five-tool” player was the reason the club dished out a more than $6 million signing bonus.
