Veterans salute middle school

L.A. Ainger Middle School teacher Mary Murnighan and eighth grader Eleanor Keys were honored by state VFW veterans, who named Murnighan Teacher of the Year and Eleanor one of three state award winners in the VFW Patriots Pen essay competition.

ENGLEWOOD — Mary Murnighan got a big surprise Tuesday when fellow L.A. Ainger Middle School teachers and staff gathered to celebrate her receiving the Florida VFW Citizen Education Teacher’s Award for middle school teachers.
“They just care and support everyone,” Murnighan said of her colleagues.
