Commission deadlocked on domestic partners presentation
NORTH PORT — City commissioners failed to reach a consensus Monday night on whether to hear a presentation touting the benefits of a domestic partnership registry, a registry which has already been enacted in the city of Sarasota and recently approved in the city of Venice.
Commissioner Jim Blucher voiced concerns about some of the language contained in the city of Sarasota’s ordinance, but also advised that North Port should wait to see what happens on the state level, where a similar bill is currently in the senate. Sarasota County has taken a similar stance, Blucher said.
