Audit outlines plethora of SCAT woes
SARASOTA COUNTY — An audit released by Sarasota County details major problems within the Sarasota County Area Transit bus system, including cash left unattended in SCAT offices, more expensive parts contracts and lost grant revenue over a period of two months.
The audit comes three years after a similar audit was done on the SCAT bus system, which serves nearly 3 million riders per year. County Administrator Randall Reid said a lot of the recommendations in the 2009 audit were not done. He said SCAT does a lot of business by cash or tokens, and that has caused a number of accounting issues.
