Sarasota County’s Criminal Justice Commission discussed Monday the drawbacks to the state Legislature’s proposal of having state inmates with less than a year left on their sentences to finish serving them in county jails.
The proposal, which drew fierce opposition from the Florida Association of Counties at its legislative conference last week in Sarasota, would add more than 300 inmates to an already crowded Sarasota County Jail system if approved by the Legislature next year.
