GROVE CITY — Charlotte County Sheriff’s detectives Thursday night arrested an Englewood East man for stealing a car, crashing it into another, then breaking into the Grove City Fire Station. He then stole a $4,000 fire engine radio scanner, and outside broke into a Jeep and stole its keys. Arrested on six charges was Ryan James “RY RY” Gros, 33, of the 7300 block of Ellis Lane. CCSO received a call Thursday at 5 a.m. to respond to a car theft on Twelfth Street in Grove City. The owner of the car and Gros had left a party in the home and got into the car. The owner forgot something and went back into the home. Gros then drove off and struck a car parked alongside the roadway on the grass and kept on going. Witnesses said Gros was highly intoxicated when he left the party. At 3 p.m., the stolen car was located about three blocks from the Grove City Fire Station. It was parked in the middle of the road on Pelican Street; the car had run out of gas.
At 7 p.m., deputies located Gros and transported him to the CCSO Englewood Office for questioning. Gros said he was heavily intoxicated and didn’t remember what actually happened during the night. He said he did remember being at Jr.’s Lounge and Bar with friends and then going to a home in Grove City. He says he only remembers stopping at a fire station and somehow obtained a fire department scanner but did not remember if he entered the fire house or obtained the radio from outside the station. After further investigation, detectives charged Gros with grand theft auto, burglary to a structure (fire station), burglary to a conveyance (fire engine), grand theft (fire radio), burglary to a conveyance (Jeep), and petit theft (Jeep keys). Gros, a convicted felon with four bookings, was transported to the Charlotte County Jail and remains there on $18,000 bond.
